How to Complete Land Registry in Israel

If you have land in Israel, there are a few ways in which you can register it.

First, you have the option to complete the registration using historical documents. You, as the land owner, can send our law offices the relevant documents and evidence, and our lawyers will then be able to get back to you with specific answers about how to complete the land registry in Israel under your particular circumstances.

The other potential situation you might encounter, which is very common, is needing to complete your rights registration through the court. This is what happens when you attained land but the registration is incomplete because of death, loss of documents, separation from a previous lawyer, or simply forgetting to deal with it.

In this case, we will gather the necessary evidence and declarations on your behalf. If needed, we’ll also hire a private investigator to find evidence or inheritance documents (if relevant). We’ll also handle all of the communication with TABU.

About TABU

In Israel, land registry rights are governed by the Land Registration and Settlement Authority, also known as TABU. TABU is governed by the Israeli Ministry of Justice and it manages the Land Registry in Israel.

TABU operates via nine regional offices spread throughout the country, which have jurisdiction on matters related to registration of land and joint home disputes.

A Possible Land Registry Case

Here’s an example of a potential situation in which a person would need to complete their land registry in court. Let’s say you live on your parents’ land and you want to sell it. However, when you start looking into ownership, you find out that a registration mistake was made, and the land doesn’t legally belong to your parents. You go digging a little further and find out that the person who originally sold your parents the land is deceased. They do, however, have heirs.

In this situation, we would find the heirs, contact them, and have them send us the relevant permission and documents proving that the land did, indeed, belong to your parents. Then we’d contact the court, sending them all of the evidence and documentation, and ask for them to give the land or property rights to the person who bought the land – that being your parents. Once all that is taken care of, you’ll be free to do what you please with the property, including selling it.
